Meet Chris Mellor

All training elements are developed and jointly delivered by the partnership’s Pedagogical and Business Development Director, Chris Mellor.

Chris has spent 20 years in the field of business English skills training working predominantly in Budapest, Hungary initially for Linguarama, the international language training organisation, where he held the position of Director of Studies between 1996 – 2000. Subsequently, he established his own ‘boutique’ training company, L2L Consulting Ltd., dedicated to providing innovative, customised language and soft skills training solutions to the top management of multinational and domestic private enterprises across a broad spectrum of business sectors, governmental organisations and ministries.

A graduate of the University of Leeds in German Language & Literature, 15 years ago Chris obtained his post-graduate Diploma in Teaching English for Business Purposes from the London Chamber of Commerce & Industry International, one of the highest and most respected international qualifications in this field.

Chris has also translated, proofread and edited numerous articles, websites, contracts, annual reports and press releases, between Hungarian, German and English – the publications ‘National Development Plan for life-long adult education in Hungary’ and ‘Hungarian Science Policy at the turn of the millennium’, the latter for the then President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, are worthy of particular mention.

We travelled a lot, so I got to see the county of Yorkshire, which both in terms of the culture and the natural environment was an amazing experience. I was accommodated in a very friendly, homely, high standard guesthouse, where every day started with a wonderful breakfast. Harrogate itself is a real gem. There are any number of excellent restaurants which give the lie to everything you have heard about terrible English food.

About Yorkshire

Yorkshire – Europe’s Leading Destination (World Travel Awards 2013), one of Lonely Planet’s ‘top global places’ to visit and Host of Le Grand Départ of the 2014 Tour de France

Just 2½ hours from London, Harrogate is one of the leading tourist resorts in the north of England and the gateway to exploring the spectacular scenery of the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors National Parks. For many years Harrogate was also the UK’s principal spa resort, with nowhere on the planet claiming as wide a diversity of medicinal springs. Although today the naturally welling spa waters are not in use, you can still enjoy the facilities of the wonderfully restored Turkish Baths.

Plunge into a fascinating journey of discovery through more than 2000 years of British history in York; walk along the ancient Roman City Walls, experience everyday life in a Viking settlement with all your senses or simply lose yourself in the romantic, winding, medieval streets.

Leeds is the UK’s top legal, financial and business centre outside London, with dynamic manufacturing, health and innovation sectors and a fast-growing, multi-billion pound economy. But the stylish designer boutiques, arts and theatre scene, and vibrant nightlife mean that it is not all work and no play.

The beautiful valley of Wensleydale offers an authentic flavour of Yorkshire hospitality, with King Richard III’s historic castle, Aysgarth Waterfalls, which famously featured in Kevin Costner’s ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’, the traditional Black Sheep Brewery and Wensleydale Creamery.

The rugged landscape which inspired Emily Brontë to write ‘Wuthering Heights’...

the limestone scenery of Malham which featured in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows…

the wonderfully preserved UNESCO World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Gardens…

a coastline of picturesque fishing villages, castles and ruined abbeys, which was Count Dracula’s first sight of England and where you can taste traditional fish and chips while enjoying the sea view which inspired Captain James Cook to set sail on his voyages of discovery to Australia and the Pacific Islands…

...in Yorkshire you are pretty much spoilt for choice!
